Canterbury Updates

Jeff Maday, media relations manager at Canterbury Park provided updates on the track website on the various projects going on around the Park today.

Some key aspects of the report:

On the infrastructure front, the equine pool has been demolished and the D barns are scheduled to go shortly with the new, super sized barns having been completed;

There will be a new starter in place for the 2024 season as Oscar Quiroz will move into that roll. Oscar has worked as an assistant starter for many years at several racetracks and is a seasoned veteran to lead the gate crew;

Stall applications have been received from 60 trainers for approximately 1100 stalls, a solid number for the season if they all get filled;

The jockey colony is in flux with 2023 leading rider Harry Hernandez heading to Texas but others are poised to step in;

Canterbury (and Running Aces) needs the help of all fans and participants to get in touch with their legislators to make sure the tracks get a fair shake in the sports betting bill trying to make its way through the state house.

The “Ban HHR” bill, HF 5274,Has been referred to the House State and Local Government Finance and Policy Committee. No hearing on their online schedule yet.
