SHAKOPEE, MN – The $38,148 Grade III Canterbury Park Distaff Challenge, a 400 yard dash for fillies and mares competing to get to the AQHA Racing Challenge Championships on October 18 at The Downs at Albuquerque, returns tonight to Canterbury Park
A Minnesotan is in the mix this year as Beep Beep Rev Rev, bred and owned by Summer Run Inc and trained by Jason Olmstead, is the 3-1 second choice on the morning line. The 5-year old mare won the Canterbury and Minnesota Derbies at three and was second, beaten 1/2 length in last year’s Challenge event. She has two wins at six tries at the distance.
The highest last race Speed Index figure in the field belongs to Bv Miss Mona, trained by Ramon Mendoza. She last raced on May 18 at Remington Park where she earned an Index of 83 while beating a field of $35,000 claimers. A win at 400 yards has been elusive for Bv Miss Mona in five attempts in her career.
A second Minnesotan in the field is the 3-year old filly, Eos Keep Dreaming. Owned and bred by Corey Wilmes and trained by Ed Ross Hardy, she comes in off a third place finish in the North Star Derby where she broke a bit behind the field but rallied, only to be beaten by 3/4 length at the wire. With that race under her belt and a clean start and Eos Keep Dreaming could very well surprise her older.
Post time for the nine race card is 5 PM with the Distaff Challenge set to be run as the 8th race.
