SHAKOPEE, MN – The early wagering came in on Foxy Cowgirl in the $38,148 Grade III Cox Ranch Canterbury Distaff Challenge and they were right on the money. She broke beautifully and was never challenged throughout, romping to a length and a quarter victory in the 400-yard dash.

“She was running and winning some Iowa bred stakes at home,” said winning trainer, Canterbury Park Hall of Famer Ed Ross Hardy. “We nominated late to enter the Challenge Series and wanted to give her a shot.”

Foxy Cowgirl covered the 400 yards in 19.903 seconds and earned a Speed Index of 99. Sendmecandyandarose ($4.20) was second and Five Bar Fantasy ($3.80) was third.

Coming into the race off a two-month layoff gave Hardy no reason for concern.

“She runs better off a layoff,” he said, “and with the Challenge Series schedule, it worked out perfectly.

Foxy Cowgirl was bred in Iowa by Christine Hovey and is owned by Paul Luedemann, Corey Wilmes and Cole Morehead.
