Made in Minnesota Night Features Derby, Oaks Saturday

SHAKOPEE, MN – Saturday night at Canterbury Park is Made in Minnesota night featuring five Minnesota bred races anchored by the $75,000 Minnesota Oaks and Minnesota Derby. Both races are contested at a mile and seventy yards with many of the 3-year olds trying two turns for the first time.

In the Oaks, Where’s Marilyn (Riecken/Bridgmohan) will try and replicate her victory last year in the Northern Lights Debutante over many of these. Her first two races of 2025 were non-descript, but she rebounded strongly last out scoring in a state bred allowance going a mile on the turf.

Flatter Me Baby (Bethke/Rodriguez), second to Where’s Marilyn in the Deb, has been very strong since coming to Canterbury earlier this season, winning two of three in impressive fashion. In the Oaks, though, she’ll have to go two turns for the first time. She will carry one of the hottest jocks in the room, Guillermo Rodriguez, which is clearly in her favor.

Carson Bay (Scherer/Murray) was stakes placed at Evangeline earlier this season in a six-furlong sprint. She’s been two turns once before in the slop at Fairgrounds in an even effort but never threatened.

The Minnesota Derby is a speed laden affair with trainer Coty Rosin bringing a pair of strong contenders to the race.

The morning line favorite, Sushi Man (Hernandez), ran a nice route on the dirt in May at Prairie Meadows where he finished second in a maiden special weight before coming up north to totally dominate a pair of mile races on the turf. If he can replicate that effort on dirt, he is going to be very difficult to beat.

Flying Martini (Gallardo) has taken that speed gate to wire over a route twice in his three career starts: one on the dirt and one on the grass.

Northern Lights Futurity winner, Abel Seaman (Biehler/Vergara) has been running at Prairie Meadows this spring where he finished second in an allowance and in the Iowa Stallion Auction stakes last out.  Although he hasn’t been able to win yet this year, there is plenty of speed in the race to possibly set him up for a nice trip.

Speedy Arjun for Cash should add to the pace scenario while Towner Too should get first run at the early leaders.

Post time for Made in Minnesota night is 5:10 PM with the Oaks race four and the Derby race 6.
