Canterbury Park Steps Up to Host Minnesota Yearling Sale

John Groen, General Manager of Canterbury Park, announced to Minnesota horsemen that Canterbury Park will again host the Minnesota bred yearling sale on September 6.

Several horsemen volunteered to assist the track in running the sale this year after the demise of the Minnesota Thoroughbred Association two years ago and the decision by the HBPA to not take on the sale this year.

Update from Canterbury Park Regarding 2026 Minnesota Yearling Sale

Canterbury Park is pleased to announce it will be holding the annual Minnesota Thoroughbred Yearling sale on Sunday, September 6th in the Canterbury Park Event Center.

Registration forms will be available early next week, but we know there are deadlines for other sales coming up, so wanted to get you a few details.

There are no changes to fee and commission structures in 2026.  Please note – the minimum sale price for a yearling will be raised to at least $2,000 for the 2026 Sale. A portion of sale proceeds will be dedicated to helping fund a return of a Minnesota Breeders Awards banquet.

In the event the Canterbury Park Thoroughbred Sale does not generate 20 or more entries, Canterbury Park reserves the right to reconsider the viability of the sale.

We look forward to once again hosting this important event for Minnesota’s breeding community.  I would like to offer a special thanks to Cameron Mahlum, Nicky Strohkirch, Rick Bremer and Vickie Zoelle for help making this happen.

Sincerely,

John Groen
General Manager, Canterbury Park
