Polar Xpress Takes $20,000 Cam Casby Opening Night at Canterbury

Polar Xpress (4) with Marcus Swiontek take the $20,000 Cam Casby stakes on Opening Night at Canterbury Park.

SHAKOPEE, MN – Jockey Marcus Swiontek knew the horses his mare had to beat to win the 300 yard Cam Casby Stakes at Canterbury Park. Accomplished brothers Dickie Bob and Pyc Jess Bite Mydust are multiple stakes winners and while Polar Xpress had been competitive with them, she’d always finished behind them. In fact, in the first two runnings of the Casby, each had won one. All three are trained by Jason Olmstead.

Just before the gates opened, however, Dickie Bob made a lunge and Pyc Jess Bite Mydust started a little slowly as usually and Swiontek knew he had a chance.

“When we broke well and Dickie Bob wasn’t next to me, I knew we had a real chance,” said Swiontek.

“You can’t take anything away from Polar Xpress,” said trainer Jason Olmstead. “If you make a mistake, she’ll punish you. Dickie Bob false started a bit there and she made him pay. She doesn’t make mistakes. She’s been running right with these boys and today she beat them.”

Polar Xpress seized the lead and never looked back, prevailing by a neck in 15.573 over Haute Wagon and Pyc Jess Bite Mydust. She returned $12.40 to her backers for the win. She earned a 95 speed index for her effort.

Polar Xpress was bred and is owned by Summer Run Inc. Thus far Jason Olmstead has trained each winner of the three runnings of the Casby.
