Prairie Meadows Community Rallies Around St. Julien; Fundraiser Monday

ALTOONA, IA – The nightcap at Prairie Meadows on May 19th was a routine maiden claiming race, the kind that are run every day across North America.  Veteran jockey Marlon St. Julien guided first time starter, Carbaugh, into the gate as the last entry in the nine horse field.

When the gates opened a chain reaction sent Carbaugh stumbling forward and St. Julien over his head onto the dirt where he stayed.

He had surgery the next day on his spine to relieve pressure on spinal cord and has a long road to recovery.  On Monday evening, June 4, the Prairie Meadows community is banding together to assist St. Julien as expenses will continue to mount through his recovery period.

There will be a free will donation dinner at 5:30 PM at Griff’s Valley View RV Park Shelter Number 2 located at 6429 NE 46th Street in Altoona.  There will also be a bake sale and silent auction with all proceeds going to St. Julien.

There is also a Go Fund Me page set up for St. Julien.  You can access it here: https://www.gofundme.com/give-marlon-a-leg-up

For more details on donating silent auction items or helping with dinner, please contact the Chaplain, ITOBA office or the HBPA office.
