Brothers Renew Rivalry in Cam Casby

Dickie Bob

SHAKOPEE, MN – Full brothers Dickie Bob and Pyc Jess Bite Mydust are the top two choices heading into the $20,000 Cam Casby at Canterbury Park opening night, Wednesday, June 10.  The Casby is 300 yards for state bred Quarter Horses, 3-year olds and up.

The finale on the card brings the pair of Lunderborg LLC homebreds together where they spent most of last season battling each other for dominance.  While little brother Dickie Bob beat his slower breaking brother most races over the years, Pyc Jess Bite Mydust finally came out on top in the $38,000 Cash Caravan Stakes toward the end of last season in Shakopee.

Pyc Jess Bite Mydust is the defending champion in this race (Dickie Bob sat out last year’s edition) and comes in after a couple of mediocre efforts at Remington Park (one was in a grade 2, however).  However he has never missed the board at Canterbury where he is a multiple stakes winner. He is 1-4 versus his brother. Denny Velazquez will be in the irons.

Dickie Bob, quicker breaking than his brother, also spent the spring at Remington where he scored a win over an allowance field in his debut.  He came back to be 3 lengths off the pace, finishing 7th in a $75,000 optional claiming race.  Berkley Packer remains on board after taking over the ride on Oklahoma.  Jason Olmstead trains the brothers.

Big brother was able to turn the tables on Dickie Bob because of his tremendous mid-race speed finally was able to overcome his generally troubled starts over 400 yards in the Cash Caravan.  The Casby, run at 300 yards, may be harder for Jess if he can’t break cleanly.

Naturally the brothers are not running a match race and Olmstead’s third charge in the race, Polar Xpress, has enjoyed some of his best races at Canterbury Park while lightly raced Fire N Guns had a solid debut season at Canterbury last year.

Haute Wagon, though not winning in Oklahoma, ran credibly in three starts and comes into the Casby primed and ready. The only 3-year old in the race, Johnee B, will be making his first race of the year as does Streak N Sparks who finished 2019 well, finishing 4th in the Morehouse and Cash Caravan.

First post on opening night is 4:30 with the Cam Casby scheduled to go at 8:40 PM Central.
