Ready to Runaway Dazzles; Hot Shot Kid Upsets in Canterbury Stakes Action

Ready to Runaway sailing home under Alex Canchari in the Lady Slipper Stakes

SHAKOPEE, MN – Mr. Jagermeister looked to be the lock of the day and the Lady Slipper looked to be the most talent laden field assembled in the 34 runnings of the race.  By the end of the day, Mr. Jagermeister was upended by Hot Shot Kid, Ready to Runaway made a mockery of the Lady Slipper and Mac Robertson once again trains the winner of multiple Minnesota bred stakes.

Pressured early by Cinco Star, Mr. Jagermeister just did not seem his usual self in the lane in the six furlong $50,000 10,000 Lakes Stakes.  At the point where he usually kicks away he seemed stuck in gear as Hot Shot Kid passed him by and won by a length and a half.

The Kid broke well and was unhurried, sitting about three lengths off the pace before being asked as they straightened out for home.

“Mac lets me ride the horse as I see the race,” said winning jockey Francisco Arrieta. “I’ve ridden him before and I know the horse.  Mac had the horse ready and I’m thankful to him and Mr. Bush for letting me ride.”

Hot Shot Kid paid $11.20 to win while Mr. Jagermeister ($2.10) held on for second and Fireman Oscar ($2.60) was third. The time for the six furlongs was 1:09.45

Hot Shot Kid was bred and is owned by Warren Bush.

Ready to Runaway broke alertly in the $50,000 Lady Slipper Stakes and was pressured through the early stages of the race by Ari Gia.  Ari Gia ran out of steam through the turn in the six furlong race while old warrior Honey’s Sox Appeal picked up the chase for a sixteenth of a mile before being turned away by the favored Ready to Runaway.

When Alex Canchari asked her to go, she took it to the field extending her lead to four furlongs before he put away the crop and hand rode her to a 3 ¾ length victory in 1:09.71 – the second fastest time in the 34 runnings of the race.

“Really, a sack of potatoes could win on that filly,” laughed Canchari after the race.  “She’s so good and so talented. She’s really been running great this year.”

Ready to Runaway paid $3.20 to win.  Closer Pinup Girl ($16.40) worked out a trip into the hot pace to finish second. Firstmate ($6.40) was third.

Ready to Runaway was bred by Wildcat Ranch LLC and is owned by John Mentz.
