Some Say So, A P is Loose Repeat in Princess Elaine, Blair’s Cove

A P is Loose with Jareth Loveberry wins his third consecutive Blair’s Cove Stakes to become the all time leading money earner in Canterbury Park history.

SHAKOPEE, MN – Different year.  Same Result.

Hard knockers Some Say So and A P is Loose have a combined 12 years between them and they both know how to win – especially on July third in front of the 21,000 plus in attendance for twilight racing and traditional post race fireworks display.

In the $50,000 Princess Elaine for state bred fillies and mare, Leandro Goncalves kept Some Say So (6.20) just off the early pace set by Honey’s Sox Appeal, took the advantage heading for home and kept to task to win by a length.  Longtime rival First Hunter (3.60) closed steadily for second and Honey’s Sox Appeal (3.20) stubbornly held on for third in what may have been her best race of the season so far.

Some Say So with Leandro Goncalves takes her second consecutive Princess Elaine.

“They were going fast,” said Goncalves.  “I just wanted to keep her relaxed and when the time came, she was there for me waiting.”

Trained by Judd Becker and owned by Tim Rosin and Mark Kane, Some Say So covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:43.34 over a firm turf course.

In the Blair’s Cove, A P is Loose was trying to make it a threepeat in the $50,000 mile and a sixteenth turf stake but was facing a solid field of nine other rivals and the 7-year old Monarchos gelding wasn’t getting any younger.

“I thought maybe he lost a step last season,” said owner/breeder Joel Zamzow.  “I didn’t expect to win this one.”

A P is Loose did what he does best, however, stalk the early pace and pounce late.  Breaking from out in post eight, Jareth Loveberry was able get A P is Loose positioned in third about three lengths off the early pace set first by Stormy Sailor and then picked up by a hard to handle Fireman Oscar.

A P is Loose (7.40) got first jump on the early leaders as Fireman Oscar began to fade and Loveberry never let him relinquish the lead and won by a length over the hard closing Teddy Time (6.00).  Deep closer Where’s Jordan (4.80) was third.

With the victory, A P is Loose became the all time money winner at Canterbury Park, surpassing Hold For More, with $405,188 (see story here).  He stopped the clock at 1:42.92.
