Canterbury: Stewards Daily Reports

A little known addition to the Canterbury Park website is the Stewards Daily Report.  The Daily Report is a rundown from the Minnesota state stewards of the day’s racing activity with an explanation of events and decisions made on race day.  What is interesting about the report is not only are there explanations of inquiries and objections but also of incidents on the racetrack that may not have come to the attention of bettors and fans.

The Report leads off with date, weather, track conditions, attendance and on-track handle.  Then there is a listing of any hearings held, scratches, jockey changes claims and horses that were sent to the test barn.

Finally there is a race by race account of what was reviewed in the stewards booth on race day.  Many of these incidents are not even noticed by the public but are scrutinized by the racing officials.  By publishing the Report, racing officials are trying to introduce greater transparency into what goes on behind the scenes at the racetrack.

Below is a link to the Report on the Canterbury website.  Click on any day that you’re interested in and take a read.
