SHAKOPEE, MN – Sunday’s horse races at Canterbury Park will not be conducted due to projected extreme heat during the afternoon.
The heat index during the card was forecasted to exceed 105 degrees for a sustained period creating potentially unsafe conditions for both equine and human athletes as well as outdoor workers and guests.
The $51,500 Frances Genter Stakes and the $51,500 Victor S. Myers Stakes scheduled for today will be added to today’s extras for entries being taken now for Sunday, Aug. 2 along with other races that were cancelled.
The Genter and Myers are traditionally used as prep races for the Minnesota Oaks and Derby which will be run on August 15.
Racing resumes Thursday night at 5:10 p.m.
