Robertson Provisional Suspension Lifted; Leg Up Day Saturday at Canterbury

Trainer Mac Robertson

SHAKOPEE, MN – Perennial leading trainer and Canterbury Park Hall of Famer, Mac Robertson, had his provisional suspension dropped by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare unit today.  In a release, HIWU stated:

“The results of the requested B sample of covered horse Johnny Up did not confirm the presence of altrenogest, a banned substance, which was indicated in the A sample finding.  Accordingly the provisional suspensions of trainer McLean Robertson and Johnny Up have been lifted, the notice of a potential equine anti-doping violation has been withdrawn by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit, and the matter has been closed.”

Robertson’s last start at Canterbury was on July 2.  Robertson will be able to enter horses again beginning with tomorrow’s entries for races to be run on Saturday, July 29.

LEG UP DAY

Saturday will be the annual Leg Up Day fund raising day at Canterbury Park.  The Leg Up Fund was created in 2014 and started as a 501(c)3 charity that provides emergency transitional financial assistance to jockeys who have sustained on track injuries in the performance of their profession at Canterbury Park. The Fund has since expanded to include support for exercise riders, backside workers and retired racehorses.

In addition to direct contributions, the annual “Leg Up Day at the Races” has provided many fundraising opportunities and activities for patrons at Canterbury Park.

This year’s events will include: a raffle for a scooter, jockey autograph session and a large silent auction.  Owners have sponsored individual jockeys in what has become a very competitive bouncy ball race and track announcer Paul Allen will call a race from a dunk tank while patrons try and send him for a swim.

Some of the silent auction items include: a day in the “hot tub” – co-hosting the pre-race show with Paul Allen or Kevin Gorg; a chance to have your own race written by the racing secretary; Jareth Loveberry autographed saddle and Two Phil’s memorabilia; and a Ron Turcotte autographed photo of Secretariat.

Post time on Leg Up day is 5:07 PM CT with activities interspersed through the racing card.
