Quarter Horses Step Into the Spotlight at Canterbury Sunday

SHAKOPEE, MN – The Fastest Day in Minnesota Sports takes place at Canterbury Park this afternoon as the track will run the first ever day dedicated to Quarter Horses in the track’s history.  In the Canterbury Park era, while the track had run quarter horse only afternoon cards in the 1990s, those was followed up by an evening thoroughbred card.  Sunday will be completely dedicated to the Quarter Horses with ten races including seven stakes worth over $350,000.

The day kicks off with a 2-year old maiden race followed by a $14,000 allowance.  After the early double there will be seven straight stakes, capped off by the 350 yard $156,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity.

Three challenge races will be run with berths at stake in the finals on October 26 at The Downs at Albuquerque.

The Bank of America Canterbury Park Championship Challenge (440 yards) is back this year carrying a purse of $45,000. The $25,000 ARC Canterbury Park Distaff Challenge (400 yards) is for fillies and mares and the $20,000 Canterbury Park Distance Challenge will be run at 870 yards.  All the finals at the Downs are Grade I races.

Also on the card are the $78,050 Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby(400 yards), the $36,068 MQRHA Stallion Auction Futurity (350 yards) and the $20,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile (350 yards).

First post for the card is 12:52 PM.
